About Kelpom

Kelpom is a French startup with a mission to bring transparency to the used Apple product market. To achieve this, Kelpom offers two complementary services to its users.

Serial Number and IMEI Identification Service

Our Apple serial number and IMEI identification service allow verification of technical specifications and information on device warranty and manufacturing date.

The goal is to facilitate quick and easy exchange of essential information about devices between sellers and buyers of "Pre-owned Apples" to create a climate of trust. Despite the meticulous care taken by Kelpom in building the database, errors may occur. We recommend users use all available means, including invoices, to verify the characteristics of the devices in question.

This service is free for "Basic" searches. If you need more in-depth information, you can purchase a Premium Classic or HD Report based on the desired information. Among these advanced details, you will find the status of iCloud activation lock, GSMA blacklist status, sim lock status, and more.

A Collaborative Database of Stolen and Lost Devices

In our effort to make the market for used iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Mac safer, we have launched new features to allow users to report lost and stolen devices. The goal is to create a database of lost and stolen devices generated by Kelpom users. To this end, it is now possible to register by creating an account on Kelpom.fr and record the serial numbers of your devices. Our users can then report any lost or stolen iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Mac to alert other users. This also allows the person who lost a device to be contacted through the device information sheet if it is ever found.

How It Works?

Whether it's an iPhone, iPad, iPod, MacBook Pro, or even an old PowerMac G3, Apple serial numbers are all formatted according to the same logic and provide valuable information about the devices.

Here's the "recipe":

  • The first two or three characters of an Apple serial number refer to the factory where the device was produced.
  • The manufacturing date is given by the following characters.
    • In the case of 11-character Apple serial numbers, these are three digits, with the first corresponding to the year and the next two to the week. A serial number containing 942 will be a device manufactured in 2009 during the 42nd week of the year.
    • For a 12-character Apple serial number, the year and manufacturing week are coded by two letters.
  • The following characters indicate the manufacturing number in the series for a given week.
  • Finally, the last three or four characters indicate the type of device. For example, if the serial number of an iPod ends with DCMN, we can determine with certainty that it is a 6th generation iPod nano with a capacity of 8 GB and in silver color.
  • Our database contains more than 6000 Apple references, allowing us to provide information on all serial numbers of iPhones, iPods, iPads, and Macs!
  • Every time the serial number of an iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Mac is submitted to Kelpom, it is broken down and analyzed by an algorithm that consults our database.

Example — iPhone 12 Pro Max serial number

  • F2 This iPhone was manufactured in the factory with reference F2.
  • LD The next two characters correspond to a code to determine the date: the 37th week of 2020, i.e., the week of November 2nd.
  • 0D3Y The last four characters of this serial number and our database allow us to determine that it is an iPhone 12 Pro Max in Graphite color with a storage capacity of 128 GB.

It should be noted that in 2021, Apple changed the structure of its serial numbers and made them completely random. These new serial number formats no longer contain any information. It is now not even possible to distinguish the serial number of an iPhone from that of a Mac. Fortunately, we have other methods to obtain this information!
